Poor Little Rich Girl
“Poor Little Rich Girl” comes to the Etcetera Theatre in Camden, London on the 2nd of June 2008, in an English language revival of the Brazilian musical “Pobre Menina Rica”. Telling the story of the love of a rich girl for a poor favela poet in Rio, this classic story shows the incredible social divide in 1960’s Rio society. Being performed in London as part of the celebrations of 50 years of Bossa Nova, this performance of Poor Little Rich Girl will benefit Task Brasil. Ligia da Silva, founder and trustee of the charity, thanks all supporters: “There is no doubt that we could not carry out the work that we do without the kindness and generosity of our supporters. The performance of ‘Poor Little Rich Girl’ in June is a fantastic way to promote awareness of our cause, and we are very grateful to the Poor Little Rich Girl team for providing us with this opportunity. I hope that everyone comes along, it will certainly be a great event”. This piece of musical theatre features twelve songs composed by two important Bossa Nova musicians, Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes (the latter being the lyricist of the classic bossa nova “The Girl from Ipanema”), and the production combines their sophisticated sounds with a minimalist staging. Tickets can be bought from the box office on: 020 7482 4857, or online at www.etceteratheatre.com.
